Can anyone attend the hearing?

ATTENTION: IOWAPERB.IOWA.GOV IS MOVING

On July 1, 2024, PERB duties were assigned to the Emploment Appeal Board (EAB).  Effective December 3, iowaperb.iowa.gov will no longer be available and all information will be found at the EAB's website, eab.iowa.gov.  However, the updated CPI is available on the EAB site now.

Answer:

Generally, hearings are open to the public and anyone may attend. The hearing
may be closed to the public only if some specific provision of law allows the hearing to be
closed. Sometimes the witnesses must wait outside the hearing room until they are called to
testify, referred to as sequestration. This prevents each witness from hearing what the other
witnesses testify.  Whether the witnesses are kept outside the hearing room often depends on
whether a party objects to a witness sitting through the testimony of the other
witnesses.  Iowa Code § 17A.12(7).
